Centerback Joins SAFC From Liga Portugal 2 Side
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 28 2023) – San Antonio FC has acquired defender Trova Boni on loan from Belenenses SAD, pending league and federation approval, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.
“As a staff, we are very excited to welcome Boni to the team,” said SAFC head coach Alen Marcina. “He brings high-level experience and the skillset to play at the highest level in the US. Boni is an ultra competitor with exceptional speed and quickness, is outstanding in 1v1 duels, and is comfortable covering large spaces. We look forward to integrating Boni with his new teammates and getting him accustomed to our team identity.”
In the 2021-22 season, Boni appeared in six matches, five starts, with Belenenses SAD in Portugal’s top flight – the Primeira Liga. In the 2022-23 season with Belenenses in the Portuguese Liga 2, Boni was on the pitch for over 2,000 minutes played in 28 matches.
Boni spent part of 2020 in Portugal, with Varzim SC in Liga 3 on loan from KV Mechelen of the Belgian first division.
Internationally, Boni has made four appearances, with one start, for the Burkina Faso National Team.
San Antonio FC is on the road Wednesday, heading south to take on RGV FC in the 2023 Copa Tejas finale. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT, with the match broadcast on ESPN+.
