Forward Leads SAFC in Career Playoff Goals, Scored Twice in 2022 USL Championship Final Win
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 3, 2023) – San Antonio FC has signed forward Santiago Patiño to a multi-year deal, pending league and federation approval, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are ecstatic to welcome back Santiago to the team,” said head coach Alen Marcina. “He is a culture giver, a mentality monster, a winner and a proven goal scorer. This timely addition of Santiago will assist in our quest to defend our championship title.”
The reigning USL Championship Final MVP, Patiño had a dominant 2022 playoffs to lead SAFC to the club’s first Championship Title. Patiño scored twice in the 3-1 Championship Final win, the seventh and eighth goals of his playoff career.
Patiño entered the 2022 playoffs already leading SAFC in career playoff goals with three, then went on to record braces in the Western Conference Semifinal and USL Championship Final. The native of Colombia recorded a goal and an assist in the Western Conference Final for good measure.
Over the 2021 and 2022 regular seasons, Patiño has scored 11 goals in 28 matches with the club.
Additionally, San Antonio FC and forward Kimarni Smith have mutually agreed to part ways. Smith appeared in 10 matches with SAFC after joining the team in January.
