Oluwaseyi Joins Midfielders Jorge Hernandez and Rida Zouhir on Team of the Week
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 1, 2023) – San Antonio FC forward Tani Oluwaseyi has been named USL Championship Player of the Week, joining SAFC midfielders Jorge Hernandez and Rida Zouhir on the league’s Team of the Week as well.
Oluwaseyi stepped into club and league record books on Saturday night, scoring four times in the 5-3 win over Hartford. The four goals were the most in a match in club history, and give Oluwaseyi three hat tricks in 12 matches this season. The forward’s 13 goals on the season set a new club single-season best, and lead the USL Championship.
The performance was the first four-goal match in the USL Championship since 2019, and just the 12th ever. The St. John’s product also became the second player in league history to record three hat tricks in a single season, joining Matt Fondy in 2015. The Player of the Week honor is Oluwaseyi’s second of the season.
Hernandez earned the Team of the Week selection after assisting twice against Hartford, creating seven chances as well in the win.
Zouhir lands on the Team of the Week bench after a strong two-way performance, assisting and creating three chances while winning nine of 15 duels and blocking two shots.
SAFC is on the road this weekend, heading to Arizona to take on Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. CT, and the match can be streamed on ESPN+.
