Academy Products Include Youngest in SAFC History
SAN ANTONIO (March 8, 2023) – San Antonio FC has added Jude Bosshardt, Eduardo Fernandez, Mateo Gonzales, Roman Holt, Kibukila Mbula, Dalziel Ozuna, Giovanni Padilla and Henrik Sakshaug to the roster pending league and federation approval.
“Our mission with the SAFC Pro Academy is to develop our athletes to compete at the highest level,” said SAFC Pro Academy Director Juan Lamadrid. “By joining the first team on academy agreements, these young men can continue their growth and train with the reigning champions. We are extremely proud of their collective commitment to grow and improve, and cannot wait to see what they accomplish in 2023 and beyond.”
All eight players are a part of the SAFC Pro Academy, with Bosshardt, Holt, Mbula and Sakshaug joining the first team last season on academy agreements as well. All eight players have appeared in preseason matches this season, in addition to their academy competitions.
Last season, Sakshaug made his USL Championship debut – appearing as a substitute against Phoenix in April. Ozuna joins the first team after participating in the USYNT U-15 camp this week, making history as the youngest player in SAFC history to join the first team on an academy agreement, at 15 years and five days old.
“This also has a tremendous impact on our younger academy athletes, proving there is a path for them to develop and join the professional ranks,” added Lamadrid.
SAFC opens the season this Saturday, hosting Oakland Roots SC at Toyota Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT, with a pre-match championship banner unveil and post-match fireworks show. Tickets are available at SanAntonioFC.com or the SAFC app, and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
